"Heartfelt Wishes" to dance along to

Margret Stöckler  The song "Herzenswünsche" (Heartfelt Wishes) is one of my current fourth graders' favorites... We first sang the song when we talked about wishes during the pre-Christmas season.

The children quickly understood what I was getting at when I asked them what a heartfelt wish could be, and it wasn't long before everyone agreed – having peace, health, and many friends would probably be more important "things" than a new PlayStation or a new cell phone.

Together, we then collected our heartfelt wishes and wrote them on red hearts made of photo cardboard. Afterwards, we attached the hearts to shish kebab skewers so that we could hold the hearts like flags.

This way, we could not only dance to the song at our school Christmas celebration, but also surprise the children of our school with our heartfelt wishes. Even today, two years later, the hearts decorate a wall in our classroom...

... and even in the fourth grade, we sent heartfelt wishes to our favorite star again at the beginning of the school year.
